"Family Ties" CiL Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello quilters! It's time for a new Covered in Love block drive. We run these block drives every three months to create quilts for dying patients in Texas hospitals.  Anyone can participate and you can make as few or as many blocks as you like.  If you need the address to send blocks please email CoveredinLoveTx@gmail.com.  This drive will run July-September. Now, onto the actual block!

This time around we will be doing a version of the free "Family Ties" pattern from Riley Blake. I just resized it to make a 12" block.  We will be using ...

2nd Quarter Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello quilters! It's time for the second CiL quilt drive of the year. I know that the previous drive was a little complex, this one will be easier hopefully.

These two quilts were made by Donna J and dropped off recently and I thought the design would make a perfect CiL block drive. It's a super simple scrap buster, specifically binding scraps if you make yours at 2.5" wide like I do. This block is appropriately called the Potato Chip block, betcha can't make just one!

For a color scheme look for fabrics with a warm ...

Another Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello quilty friends :) As you have heard, the Covered in Love block drive is currently taking a break over the holidays. I know this is a time of year when many people don't have a lot of time for quilting, but there are also a lot of you who are jonesing for something to do!

With perfect timing, Cynthia at Quilt is More Fun Than Housework has decided to start another program similar to CiL where she lives! She will be supporting her local hospital's Palliative Care Program as well as some other needs with quilts.

She's ...

This is called the "Scrappy Pixel" block and we are making a version inspired by JessicaQuilter with only one color on each side of the midline. This will be one to get into your scrap bins for! The photo above is of 4 blocks put together and I have made a template below to help you with ...

Happy Halloween everybody! It's time for the November-December Covered in Love block drive. If you're unfamiliar with our block drives there will be more details at the bottom of the post.

For the holiday season I know everyone is busy with preparations and family, so I often slip in a favorite block that a bit harder or more fiddly.  This one definitely fits in that category. I hope you can find a block that suits you, but don't feel bad if you only do one or two blocks or decide to sit this one out!

We will ...

Hello Quilters! Another month has snuck past us and it's time for the Fall 2021 CiL Block Drive.  For September and October I thought we could reprise an old block drive from 2016 when many of you hadn't joined us yet.

The block is called a "tall nine patch" and you can find the tutorial for it here. Last time we made the blocks in a really light color combination. If you want to see how those quilts came out you can find them here and here

This time I think we'll make the blocks in a ...

So, on to the tutorial! First step, choose 3 fabrics in a true blue, bright true yellow, and low volume or white fabric.

For each block you need (4) strips of each ...

Nov/Dec Covered in Love Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Quilters, welcome to the last Covered in Love block drive of 2019! For anyone who is newer around here, CiL runs block drives every 2 months to make quilts that be given to families in the hospital grieving the loss of a loved one.

I know the holidays are a busy time of the year when it's harder to commit time to these kind of charity drives. That's ok! For those of you who can still participate I picked a simple scrap buster block in winter colors.

Design-Seeds "Holiday Tones"
Start by pulling scraps in the color palette ...
